| It is hard to believe that Les Gourmets is less than two weeks away. Months upon months of planning are finally coming to term for Front of House. With volunteer training sessions just around the corner, training manuals are being finalized and practice sessions are taking form.
Next week, Front of House will host two training dates where volunteer students are introduced to positions within the department, including servers, wine pourers, food runners, and bussers. Led by four knowledgeable supervisors, Front of House volunteers will be instructed on the various responsibilities, try their hand in each position, and ultimately choose which role they will assume the night of the event. Students will not only experience the functions of Front of House through exposure to the various positions, but will experience other aspects of the event’s operations. Since Les Gourmets seeks to not only provide outstanding experiences to guests but to also provide fellow students with a hands-on education, volunteers will take part in what is being called a professional development workshop. Students will not only learn proper table settings and service styles, but will be instructed by Heart of House on the details of the menu and the various wines that complement each course. Our greatest objective this year is to provide student volunteers with skills that they can apply to their future in hospitality. While some departments are wrapping up their responsibilities for the night of the event, Front of House is really just beginning. The true test will not come until the night of the event.
